Are You A Veteran Suffering From Hearing Loss?
Healthscreen UK are proud friends of the UK Veterans Hearing Foundation. We are lucky enough to have amazing clients that enable us to be able to support this wonderful charity by adding an optional amount or rounding up an invoice to make a voluntary contribution benefiting from a tax relief for the whole amount given!
Our Choice to Help this Charity
There are two main reasons that this charity has a place in our hearts. The first one being as a Nationwide Occupational Health Provider, we see the effects of hearing loss in the working environment daily and the challenges and personal struggles it can cause. It not only affects people physically but mentally too.
The second reason, as a proud employer of ex-veterans, we know first-hand the struggles that they have faced and the struggles that they still face. We have made it our mission to encourage ex-veterans to apply for any of our vacancies as our company rapidly grows. Our technicians David and Gershon have both been members of the armed forces and with their passion, drive and enthusiasm, we are lucky to have them on our team.
A Proud Employer of Veterans
Everyday tasks that we take for granted become hard, missing parts of your favourite film, not be able to join in conversations or feeling too embarrassed to join in conversations in case you miss bits or have to ask them to repeat themselves. Fortunately, in most companies, the strict noise at work policy does apply, so we can catch an employee hearing loss early on and hopefully with correct PPE and regular monitoring their hearing loss may not get any worse or better still, improve.
Mental Health First Aid Courses
We also, offer Mental Health First Aid Courses for companies so they can pick up on an employee suffering from Mental Health issues due to hearing or any other means. For the armed forces it’s completely different, they have no choice but to be exposed to the loud noise of combat or the rumble of a jet plane.
Empathy Knows No Bounds
On a personal note; I was unfortunately born completely deaf in my left ear and my right has slowly started deteriorating over the years.
I myself have faced many challenges throughout my life, from finding listening hard at school, nearly being ran over as I don’t know which direction sound comes from. To being scared that I would not hear my babies crying in the night, to being too scared to walk in the dark in case I don’t hear if someone is behind me.
I am lucky to have the support of a loving family and good friends around me. So, when I think of people that have fought not only for their country but for all of us individually, that are struggling both mentally and physically with their hearing loss – it is time for someone to step in.
That’s exactly what the UK Veterans Hearing Foundation does and will continue to do.
