Live better with sight and hearing loss.
Deafblind UK supports veterans who have any level of combined sight and hearing loss to live with their condition and to build their confidence and independence. We offer comfort, understanding and advice have developed a package of services specifically for veterans which includes emotional and practical support, care and social opportunities.
Deafblindness affects everyone in different ways. Some people might have mild sight and hearing loss whereas others can’t see or hear anything. It can be isolating and lonely and can lead to mental health issues – but it’s far more common than many people realise. Around 400,000 people are affected by sight and hearing loss in the UK.
We are also keen to offer direct support and advice to those unpaid carers who support deafblind veterans on a regular basis, such as a spouse, son or daughter.
Communication. We will always endeavor to communicate with people using their preferred language or method. We will communicate frequently, be open and honest and ensure the message we are communicating is clear, concise and will not cause offence.
Excellence. We will do our very best in all we undertake. We will work collaboratively and take responsibility for the outcomes. We will aim to inspire, take a pride in what we do and deliver our services efficiently and effectively.
Person Centered. We will listen to the people we support and deliver services that best meet their individual needs and empower them to live the lives they choose. We will treat everyone with dignity and compassion.
Respect. We respect people for who they are and for their knowledge, skills and experience as individuals and team members. We will respect each other’s views and opinions, and when necessary challenge constructively, positively and politely.
Help Us Fit More Veterans!
Since becoming a charity, we have managed to fit over 70 veterans with top-class hearing aids! However, we still have more than 2,000 veterans who need our help in getting back to a normal standard of life after the hearing damage they received in their years of service. Any donations we receive are a huge help in the lives of our vets and we are eternally grateful for whatever you may be able to spare.
Proudly supporting those who serve!
UK Veterans Hearing Help (now the UK Veterans Hearing Foundation) received the Bronze Award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme in 2016, in 2019 we achieved Silver level and in 2020 we achieved the highest level Gold. The scheme provides an award for organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and armed forces community.
