Celebrating Leanne’s Volunteering Journey During Volunteers’ Week 2026

As part of Volunteers’ Week 2026, UK Veterans Hearing Foundation is proud to celebrate our volunteer Leanne’s journey and the difference she continues to make through her time, care and commitment. This Volunteers’ Week is a time to recognise people who give their time to support charities, local services and community organisations. At the UK Veterans Hearing Foundation, this is also an opportunity to thank those who work behind the scenes, helping the charity continue its important work supporting veterans with hearing loss.

Leanne’s Journey into Volunteering

Leanne began her volunteering journey after spending 11 years as a stay-at-home mum. When she felt ready to re-enter the world and build her confidence again, she found the right opportunity with us through Richard’s HUB sessions at the Atkins Building in Hinckley. This session helps people explore local volunteering opportunities and take positive steps forward. Our volunteer Leanne took this opportunity to step up, and this became the start of something meaningful for her.

Supporting the UK Veterans Hearing Foundation

Leanne chose to volunteer with us for 10 hours per week, providing valuable administrative support to our charity. Since she has started her role, she has developed new skills, learned different systems and grown tremendously in confidence. Her support helps the charity continue its work with veterans, many of whom face daily challenges of hearing loss.

Leanne’s story is a reminder of how volunteering benefits both the charity and the people who give their time. It helps people feel connected, valued and part of something with purpose. One moment that meant a lot to Leanne, which she mentioned, was feeling accepted and included by her colleagues. After only three weeks, the team surprised her by decorating her desk and bringing in a birthday cake. This thoughtful gesture has made a lasting impact and helped Leanne feel part of the team. Small moments like these show the importance of kindness, belonging, and community within volunteering.

The Difference Volunteers Make

At the UK Veterans Hearing Foundation, we know that hearing support can change lives; for many veterans, the right hearing care helps them reconnect with conversations, family life, social situations, and the everyday sounds that matter most. Behind that support are people like Leanne, who volunteer to help the charity run smoothly and reach more people in need.

This Volunteers’ Week, we would like to thank Leanne for her commitment, kindness and contribution. We are proud to have her as part of the UK Veterans Hearing Foundation team.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to all volunteers across Hinckley and Bosworth and the wider voluntary and community sector who continue to give their time to support others. Volunteers make a real difference, and Leanne’s journey is a wonderful example of how volunteering can build confidence, create purpose and strengthen local communities.
